Area Supervisor

Position Summary
 
Coordinates and supervises the activities of work crews engaged in multi-state and large project herbicide application services and removal of trees that interfere with electric power lines and facilities.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
 
  • Accountable for the operational results of his or her General Foremen.
  • Schedule weekly crew visits with General Foremen, giving guidance, assistance and support.
  • Work with General Foremen and Corporate Safety investigating and settling accident claims quickly, efficiently and sensitively.
  • Ensure that high quality arboricultural work is being performed at all times.
  • Ensure that equipment repairs, preventable maintenance and purchasing policies and procedures are completed promptly.
  • Continuous contact with current customers to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Ensures compliance of all customers’ contract specifications and requirements.
  • Maintains open communication with Area Manager on all area operational activities.
  • Contacts potential customers as assigned by Area Vice President or Area Manager.
  • Understands and enforces all company policies and procedures.
  • Attends internal and external training courses which pertain to improving and developing job related business management and operational skills.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by Area Manager or Area Vice President.
 
Supervisory Responsibilities
 
  • Supervises multiple General Foremen and their crews.
  
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of electrical line clearing hazards and ability to maintain OSHA approved Qualified Line Clearance/Tree Trimmer status.
  • Ability to read and understand work orders, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to climb trees using safety ropes and maintain Certified Tree Worker or Certified Aborist status (ISA).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of personnel problem solving techniques.
  • Ability to communicate with others at all levels of the organization and to assimilate and understand information, in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.
  • Ability to operate assigned equipment.
  • Ability to make sound decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.


Minimum Qualifications
 
  • Possession of OSHA approved Qualified Line Clearance/Tree Trimmer certificate.
  • Possession of Certified Tree Worker or Certified Aborist status from the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA).
  • Possession of an appropriate herbicide applicator’s license.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License and Commercial Class B license.
  • Ability to pass drug test as mandated by the Department of Transportation.

Education / Experience
 
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of Five (5) years of experience as a General Foreman on a tree trimming or herbicide application crew or Two (2) years as an Area Supervisor managing herbicide crews and/or tree trimming crews and large multi-state projects.
  • Applicable managerial and motivational skills.
  • Able to hear, speak and see as well as have strong communication skills.
  • Computer literate; must have basic operational knowledge including electronic mail, word processing and spreadsheets.
 
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Well-groomed and properly dressed, promoting a professional appearance.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include walking or standing for extended periods of time, climbing trees and operating assigned equipment and vehicles.
  • Travel from site to site; exposure to dust and noise; some heavy lifting, standing, climbing; exposure to heights and high voltage; work in inclement weather conditions.
  • Able and willing to travel via ground and/or air transportation.
  • Storm emergencies may require extended out-of-town stays.
