Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Properly maintain tools and equipment used to work around energized power lines.
Identify due diligence and access tree failure risk.
Perform ground operation and equipment usage.
Perform precision tree felling and safe operation of chain saws.
Perform tree climbing operation.
Demonstrate proper pruning techniques.
Explain biology of tree.
Identify tree species and characteristics of tree.
Qualified in Emergency Response and Rescue Response.
Correctly identify safe work practice routines while working around energized wires.
Know all limits of approach for all voltage levels.
Demonstrate safe clearance distance.
Operate boom trucks, loaders, stump chippers, brush chippers, tractors, power saws, trucks sprayers, and other equipment and tools.
Provide training to other trimmers.
Perform any other assigned tasks and responsibilities.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise others engaged in tree trimming work and train lower-level employees.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must be at least 21 years of age if position requires interstate driving.
Must have legal authorization to work in the United States of America.
May be required to pass physical abilities test/post offer screen for employment.
Must pass a drug/alcohol screen upon offer of employment.
Possession of valid Driver’s license.
Must have an acceptable driving record.
May be required to pass a Department of Transportation physical examination to obtain the appropriate Commercial Driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills &Abilities
Demonstrate knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Demonstrate ability to properly prune various tree species.
Demonstrate knowledge and ability to tie basic knots including but not limited to: bowline, Blake’s hitch, taut line hitch, and clove hitch.
Demonstrate knowledge and ability to use lowering techniques, knot tying, saw maintenance and devices as related to tree work in the field.
Demonstrate knowledge of and/or the ability to learn about the care and proper use of tools and equipment used in the development and maintenance of trees.
Must be semi-skilled in mechanics.
Must be proficient in proper tree groundwork including but not limited to: basic tree pruning and tree removal.
Must be able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees and the public.
Must be able successfully complete a proficiency test consistenting of: climbing a ladder; knot tying; chain saw maintenance; the safe and proper handling and operation of chain saws, chippers, and stump grinders; and demonstrate proper tree groundwork abilities using a variety of equipment including but not limited to ropes, pole pruners, etc.
Education/Experience
Experience with a tree care/maintenance program, including but not limited to: operations of stump grinder, chipper, chipper truck, bucket truck, and other tree related equipment.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Must be able to report for work on time and to perform the duties of the job for an entire workday.
Must be able to work flexible hours with some weekend and holiday work required.
Must be able to perform frequent overtime work, which may involve early morning or late night hours.
Must have sufficient physical strength and ability to independently and repeatedly lift, move and carry objects weighing up to 60 pounds and to repeatedly lift, move and carry objects weighing more than 60 pounds with assistance.
This classification may require the use of personal or company vehicles on company business.
Individuals must be physically capable to operating the vehicles safely.
