Slips, Trips and Falls - Pay Attention!

Slips, trips and falls are the #1 reason for an industrial injury in the United States. Thousands of disabling injuries and deaths occur each year as a result of slips, trips, and falls. Whether you are at work or at home, be aware and cautious.

To help avoid injury, pay close attention to your movements and surroundings:
  •  Focus on where you are going, what you are doing, and what lies ahead.
  • ALWAYS use 3-points of contact when mounting or dismounting a vehicle, ascending or descending ladders or stairs, or wherever there is a handrail or guardrail available.
  • Take responsibility for fixing, removing, or avoiding hazards in your path.
  • Wear leather-type footwear that extends at least up to and around the ankle. Additionally, the footwear must be properly sized and should lace up the front and be securely tied.
  • Avoid loose or baggy clothing.
  • Walk, don't run.
  • Wipe your feet when you come in from rain or snow.
  • For balance, keep your hands at your sides, not in your pockets.
  • Do not carry loads you can't see over.
  • Walk slowly on slippery surfaces. Slide your feet and avoid sharp turns.
Safe Driving Tip:  Look Ahead!
  1. Get the Big Picture - Maintain minimum 4 or 6 second following distance.
  2. Aim High in Steering - Look ahead 15 seconds.
  3. Leave Yourself an Out - Maintaining space cushion around your vehicle is one of the best defenses you have against being involved in a collision.
